We’re excited to introduce Bush Kindy as part of our kindergarten program, a unique opportunity for children to connect with nature, develop essential life skills, and learn in the most natural classroom of all: the great outdoors!
The Benefits of Bush Kindy
Bush Kindy gives children the freedom to explore, create, and discover in a natural setting. Whether they’re splashing in mud puddles or climbing trees, these experiences support vital aspects of development:
- Physical Development: Activities like climbing, balancing, and running help strengthen gross and fine motor skills.
- Creativity & Imagination: With no toys or fixed equipment, children create their own games using sticks, stones, leaves, and other natural materials.
- Social & Emotional Growth: Engaging in pretend play and group exploration nurtures social skills, resilience, and emotional awareness.
- Cultural Awareness: Through guided bush walks with local Elders, children learn about Indigenous history, native creatures, and seasonal changes in the landscape.
What Happens at Bush Kindy?
Our Bush Kindy program includes a variety of hands on, sensory rich activities such as:
- Playing with sticks and loose parts
- Bare feet time (safely and mindfully)
- Embracing all weather—because “there’s no bad weather, only bad clothes!”
- Learning in natural outdoor spaces with open-ended possibilities
These activities help children learn to assess and take calculated risks, building confidence and self-awareness as they test their own limits in a safe, supervised environment.
